Welcome to Unterwössen
 

The "Deutsche Alpensegelflugschule Unterwössen " is located a few miles south of Lake Chiemsee in the northern foothills of the Alps, in one of the most picturesque holiday resorts of southern Bavaria. This favourable surrounding offers visitors the rare opportunity of combining the unique experience of learning to fly with a variety of holiday pleasures, rest and recreation - an advantage equally important to pilots as well as to their family members and friends.

The minimum age to start with the flight training and to obtain the pilot licence is 14 and 17 years, respectively. Upon your arrival, you are asked to present a valid pilot licence along with your personal logbook: for student pilots an aeronautical medical certificate and passport are required.

We recommend the months May, June and July for the ambitious glider pilots; the long-term statistics for Unterwössen clearly show that favourable conditions for long-distance flights are most frequently met during this time of the year. Pilots with private gliders are also welcome at the Gliding School.

We have no accommodation facilities at the airfield, but recommend all hotels, guesthouses and boarding houses at Unterwössen. The Tourist Office offers every assistance.

Some advice to our foreign guests: All member-states of the ICAO have acknowledged all glider licences issued by any member, if the holder has 30 hours as PIC on gliders, a 50-km-flight and a valid medical.
